- This file (NEMR.DOC) describes "The National E-Mail Registry," an online
- registry and searchable "white pages" directory for electronic mail users.
- There's no charge to register by modem at 800-622-0505. Registrants get a free
- account# and password -- good for 50 free online searches when the "National
- E-Mail White Pages" opens March 1. Each caller to the Registry is asked to
- list one or two "preferred" electronic mail services and addresses, so be sure
- to have them ready when you call. When you are listed, others can find you -
- even if they don't know which E-Mail service you use. And you can find others.
- Call 800-622-0505 at 300/1200/2400 baud, 7/E/1. Touch <RETURN> twice, then
- REGISTER YOUR two favorite E-Mail or BBS "addresses". Please say you heard
- about it on GEnie!
-
- [Please post this on your favorite BBS...to spread the word!]
-
-
- Dear 72147,126:
-
- That's not your name, but it COULD be your "address" on one of the most widely
- used electronic mail services. E-Mail equates to the instant message. With your
- PC and modem, you can send me a typical letter for under $1. You need just five
- minutes to send it. I can pick it up a minute later. Total time, your desk to
- mine: six minutes! Compare that to couriers ($10+ for 18-hour turnaround) and
- you'll know why 1,000,000+ people use E-Mail in one form or another.
-
- But here's CATCH #1: You don't know my E-Mail address. And I don't know yours.
- Since there's no national directory, it's hard to find someone else's E-Mail
- address.
-
- There are dozens of commercial E-Mail services, and thousands of free ones.
- Each has its own addressing scheme. My name's unusual, so I'm RHERFF on MCI
- Mail and GEnie. But on CompuServe, I'm 72147,126. My friend James Ezekiel
- Smith should be so lucky. He's JSMITH871 on one, and 72466,2560 on CompuServe.
-
- So here's CATCH #2. You probably have a "favorite" E-Mail address -- one that
- you check at least once daily for new messages -- even though you subscribe to
- two or more services. But I don't know the fastest "electronic" route to your
- desk, and you don't know the fastest way to mine. With the E-Mail White Pages,
- I can look you up, find your PREFERRED E-Mail address, and reach you a full
- day sooner.
-
- The National E-Mail Registry started 1/16/87. The National E-Mail White Pages
- opens March 1. The Registry is free to anyone with a modem. The White Pages
- are initially free, and a bargain thereafter. So CATCH #1 and CATCH #2 aren't
- long for this world. The enclosed news release tells why. Please try The
- National E-Mail Registry yourself by dialing 1-800-622-0505 with your modem!
-
- Sincerely,
-
- Ron Herff, General Manager

- TOLL-FREE "NATIONAL E-MAIL REGISTRY" BEATS KEY
- OBSTACLE TO EFFECTIVE E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS
-
-
- Trevose, PA (January 16, 1987) -- The National E-Mail Registry
-
- today opened its toll-free national E-Mail registration service for
-
- business and personal users of electronic mail services. By calling
-
- 800-622-0505 with a 300, 1200, or 2400 baud modem, callers can
-
- register their preferred E-Mail addresses in the electronic
-
- equivalent of the phone company "white pages."
-
-
- National E-Mail Registry president Ken Steele said, "The
-
- National E-Mail Registry beats the key obstacle to electronic
-
- messaging -- finding the favorite address of your E-Mail receiver.
-
- We help connect users of services like MCI-Mail or Telex to those
-
- of CompuServe, EasyLink, and even local BBS systems. Anyone with a
-
- modem can list his or her preferred E-Mail address in our online
-
- directory, free and toll-free."
-
-
- National E-Mail Registry callers must specify their preferred
-
- E-Mail address, plus other information that allows the Registry
-
- service to uniquely identify them whenever they want to change
-
- their listings. Online registration takes about five minutes.

- NATIONAL E-MAIL REGISTRY, News Release, Page 2
-
-
- Starting March 1, the "flip side" of The National E-Mail
-
- Registry begins operation. All registrants will be included in a
-
- searchable online directory called The National E-Mail White Pages.
-
- White Pages calls will be received via modem at 203-245-7720. Only
-
- those who have previously registered their own addresses can search
-
- for other E-Mail addresses in the White Pages.
-
-
- According to Steele, "Callers can use the National E-Mail White
-
- Pages to quickly find other registrants. It's just like 'directory
-
- assistance', but it's modem-to-modem."
-
-
- Use of the White Pages is initially free to National E-Mail
-
- "registrants," beginning March 1: Each new registrant gets 50 free
-
- searches through the National E-Mail White Pages. Thereafter,
-
- unlimited searching is available to high-volume E-Mail users for
-
- $95/year. Less frequent users with credit cards can buy "blocks"
-
- of 50 additional searches for $10 -- 20 cents per search.
-
-
- The National E-Mail Registry and White Pages services operate
-
- with eight incoming phone lines to avoid busy signals.
